Mike Rennie Creative is the design and digital practice of Mike Rennie, established in 2015.
The work covers brand strategy and identity, copy, UX and information architecture, web development, and the infrastructure underneath it — server administration, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace environments, and the non-profit licensing that has to be in place before a volunteer-run organisation can afford any of it. Projects range from logos to full digital transformations for state and national sporting bodies (including the back-end setup), alongside brand and product work for research groups and early-stage ventures.
Small businesses and long-established community organisations rarely need one discipline. Most projects would otherwise mean briefing and coordinating a designer, a developer, a copywriter and a systems administrator — and often the organisation doesn't know which of them it needs. I do all of it, and hand back one system they can run themselves.
Most briefs describe a symptom. An organisation asks for a new website when the real problem is that nobody on staff can update the old one, or for a rebrand when its board and its members have never agreed on what it does. Long-established bodies are the hardest: "we've always done it this way" is usually the reason they're stuck.
Working that out is only half of it, because a strategy the client doesn't understand is one they won't defend the first time it costs them something. So the job doesn't stop at a recommendation — diagnose it, explain it, build it, and leave them able to run it without me.
