What changed?

A failed or cancelled project create now removes the partial project it wrote, keeping a pre-existing empty target folder and the original error.

Why?

Creation should not leave half-written projects behind when it fails or is cancelled.

How was this tested?

  • Create project
  • CTRL + C while running

Fixes #1520

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved project creation failure handling by removing incomplete files and folders created during a failed setup.
    • Preserved pre-existing project folders while cleaning up generated contents when appropriate.
    • Prevented unsafe cleanup of filesystem root paths and handled cleanup errors without hiding the original failure.
    • Added clearer reporting of cleanup actions and retained existing project data when validation fails before scaffolding.

📝 Walkthrough

Project creation now tracks whether the target folder existed before scaffolding. If scaffolding or installation/finalization fails, rollback removes newly created project data and preserves pre-existing folders. Cleanup errors are joined with the original failure.

Changes: Failed project creation rollback

Layer / File(s) Summary
Project cleanup helpers
internal/shop/project_creation.go, internal/shop/project_creation_test.go
ProjectFolderExists checks the target path. CleanupFailedProjectCreation removes newly created folders or clears pre-existing folders while preserving them. Tests cover path validation and cleanup behavior.
Scaffold failure cleanup
internal/shop/project_scaffold.go, internal/shop/project_scaffold_test.go
Scaffold records whether the folder existed and cleans generated output after a failure. Tests cover newly created and pre-existing folders.
Project creation failure handling
cmd/project/project_create.go, cmd/project/project_create_scaffold.go, cmd/project/project_create_test.go
The create flow routes scaffolding and installation/finalization failures through rollback. The rollback helper preserves the original error and joins any cleanup error. Tests verify cleanup and error preservation.

Failed or cancelled project creation now cleans up partial output. Two edge cases remain. A folder that gains files just before scaffolding could be emptied, although the earlier validation makes this unlikely. A Ctrl+C pressed after dependencies finish installing can leave the project in place. Both are narrow fixes and suitable for follow-up or a quick change before merge.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description includes all required sections, explains the change and reason, documents manual testing, and references issue #1520. The testing details are brief but sufficient for a mostly complete description.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #1520 requires rollback after failed or cancelled project create. The create flow records whether the target existed, calls rollbackFailedProjectCreation after scaffold or install errors, and preserves the original error. CleanupFailedProjectCreation removes new targets and empties pre-existing targets. Added tests cover these cases.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within issue #1520. The new cleanup helpers, error handling, logging, and rollback tests directly support failed or cancelled project creation. No unrelated behavior is established by the reviewed evidence.

to return the scaffold error directly instead of calling
rollbackFailedProjectCreation; rely on scaffoldProject’s own write-phase cleanup
and avoid command-level cleanup when its repeated validation fails.

cmd.Context().Err() before returning nil; if cancellation or another context
error is present, call rollbackFailedProjectCreation with the existing context,
