Idea: Community Fund / Organization to Support Embedded Rust

Hi all,

I wanted to float an idea and see if there’s interest or if something like this already exists.

The idea is to create a neutral, community-driven organization (potentially a non-profit Verein) to sustainably fund Embedded Rust development. The goal would be to support key projects like defmt, probe-rs, and other foundational tooling by:

• collecting donations from companies and individuals,
• allocating funding to specific tasks or issues,
• allowing consultancies and contributors to work on funded tasks,
• ensuring transparency and fair prioritization.

Before diving into details, I’d love to hear from the WG:

• Does something like this already exist?
• Would there be interest from consultancies or the community in participating?
• Do you see this as a useful approach to strengthen the Embedded Rust ecosystem?
