This page was last updated in August 2020, more than 5 years ago. The repo https://github.com/Microsoft/nodejs-guidelines itself was archived in Jul 2025 and consequently is no longer maintained.
Significant parts of the page contents are outdated and are misleading as reference material, especially as the page is referenced for assistance in installation issues:
