This page was last updated in August 2020, more than 5 years ago. The repo https://github.com/Microsoft/nodejs-guidelines itself was archived in Jul 2025 and consequently is no longer maintained.

Significant parts of the page contents are outdated and are misleading as reference material, especially as the page is referenced for assistance in installation issues:

• Instructs to install windows-build-tools, archived in Sep 2021
• The current Python 3.x.x is incorrectly declared as unsupported. This text was added 11 years ago, and has not been updated since.
• Python 2.7, sunsetted in Jan 2020, is listed as the main version
