Engraving: make parent types accepted by EngravingObjects' constructors more specific and explicit - #35535
#34698 introduced DummyParentOr<…>, a convenient way to specify that which parent types the constructor of an EngravingObject subclass accepts, besides the dummy parent. This PR is the promised follow-up, rolling out the utility to almost all EngravingObject subclasses, so that they all specify which parents are allowed.
Factory is updated accordingly.
Making the constructors more specific is not enough: EngravingObject::setOwnershipParent would still allow setting a parent of any type. We can't fully prevent that without a runtime check. But we can catch most cases at compile time, by adding a setOwnershipParent to each subclass, that hides the general setOwnershipParent.
That can easily be circumvented by e.g. decaying a pointer to EngravingObject* and then calling setOwnershipParent on that pointer, which then still resolves to EngravingObject::setOwnershipParent. So this approach is (consciously) not foolproof. But at the very least, it serves as a systematic form of documentation, which seems a big improvement of the situation.
A solution that is foolproof can only exist at runtime, but that would require defining the list of allowed parent types in a way that's usable at runtime, comes with a performance cost, adds annoying assertions, and doesn't catch problems ahead of time. So I did not pursue this.
The last commit of this branch asks for some investigation into how much sense Chord::endsNoteAnchoredLine makes; I have a small follow-up PR around this in the works, that I will publish once this one is merged.

Walkthrough
The change constrains parent types in engraving-item constructors and factory APIs. It adds typed ownership-parent setters and updates factory parent resolution to use an allowed parent or a score dummy. Drop, editing, and import paths also change how some engraving items are parented or created. OVE glissando conversion now creates glissandi between validated note endpoints, and a test checks imported glissando relationships.
Merge Risk: Low · previous review fcf55
This is mostly a compile-time typing refactor. A few import and drop edge cases remain: OVE glissandi in non-zero voices, Guitar Pro glissandi on multi-staff tracks, and some drag-drop targets that are accepted and then deleted. These are bounded and worth fixing before or soon after merge.

Preserve FretDiagram parents in generic Harmony creation.
When a caller passes a FretDiagram to createItem for HARMONY, the Segment-only dispatch substitutes the dummy. Score::addElement then skips the diagram, so it does not register the chord symbol. Include FretDiagram in the parentOfTypeOrDummy call for that case.

I wasn't really planning to fix this, since it was already broken before this, and I'm very unfamiliar with OVE. It might be better to create a follow-up issue.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
I changed my mind; it's now fixed the same way as for GP, by just adding the glissando to the top notes of the chords rather than the chords themselves. That's perhaps better than nothing.

Use note tracks for the glissando and the current chord track for the previous-element lookup.
staffIdx is a staff index, but Segment::element, Spanner::setTrack, and Spanner::setTrack2 require track indices. For multi-staff or non-zero-voice Guitar Pro chords, the current code can miss the previous chord and can assign the glissando to a track different from startNote and endNote. That can select the wrong instrument glissando style and break track-based endpoint lookup.

DummyParentOr was written to take a list of parent types, but nothing used
more than one yet, and two things stood in the way of doing so:
- as<T>() cast blindly, which is only right as long as there is a single
type the parent can be. It now gives null when the parent is not a T.
- a DummyParentOr<Segment> could not be passed where a
DummyParentOr<Segment, Chord> is expected. A DummyParentOr now converts to
any other that accepts at least the same types.

Chord::add() makes the chord the owner of its grace chords, so say so in the
constructor. ChordRest follows, as it forwards the parent.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
BarLine::drop() and BarLine::add() take articulations, and cloning to linked
staves in undoAddElement distinguishes the two cases. Let the constructor
reflect that. Ornament and Tapping keep requiring a chord/rest.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
FBox::add() makes the box the owner of the diagrams it shows. Let the
constructor reflect that.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The constructor took any EngravingObject, with a comment and an assertion to
say what it really wants. Let the type say it instead.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
An accidental belongs to a note, an ambitus, an ornament, or a trill or one of
its segments - not to just any item.
Factory::createItem() gives an accidental no parent when asked for another
one, as it does for the other types with specific parents; the helper for that
learns to deal with several types.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A dot belongs to a note or to a rest, which took a constructor each - and a
Factory function each - because a parent parameter could name only one type.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Both exist in palettes only: dropping one runs a command, respectively adds
grace notes, and the item itself is thrown away. So there is nothing for them
to be owned by; DummyParentOr<>, without any types, says exactly that.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…arent
Both are owned by a segment. Factory said so already, but the constructors
themselves took any EngravingObject.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… else
Tie, Glissando, GuitarBend, NoteLine and - when it is anchored to notes -
TextLine are owned by their start note: Note::add() is what takes them. Any
other spanner lives in the score's spanner map and has no owner; if it were
given one, Score::addElement() would hand it to that parent's add(), which
does not know what to do with it.
Tie and TextLine took any item as parent, and so did Factory for Glissando;
the GuitarBend and NoteLine constructors were more lenient than Factory.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…hing
The line that follows a syllable is created and owned by that syllable. A
partial lyrics line continues one from a previous system or repeat, has no
syllable of its own, and lives in the score's spanner map instead.
Both constructors took any item as parent.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Hairpin, Slur, HammerOnPullOff, Trill, Vibrato, Volta, Ottava, Pedal, LetRing,
PalmMute, WhammyBar, Rasgueado, HarmonicMark, PickScrape and
GradualTempoChange are held by the score's spanner map and by nothing else.
Their constructors took any item as parent, but giving them one is a mistake:
Score::addElement() would hand the spanner to that parent's add(), which does
not know what to do with it. So they take DummyParentOr<> now.
Slur passed its parent on for TappingHalfSlur, which does have an owner; that
goes through a protected constructor instead.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Guitar Pro: a slur that was just created on the dummy was moved to the dummy
once more.
- MusicXML: a chord line was given its note as parent right before being added
to the chord, which makes the chord its parent.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Dropping a chord symbol onto a fret diagram, or the other way round, gave the
dropped item the parent of the item it was dropped on. That is right as long
as that parent is a segment. But a fret diagram in a fret box would have made
the chord symbol a child of the box, and a chord symbol that belongs to a fret
diagram would have made the new diagram a child of that diagram - neither of
which can hold them. Refuse the drop in those cases.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A class whose constructor names the parent types it accepts now has a
setOwnershipParent() overload that takes the same DummyParentOr, which hides
the general EngravingObject one. A parent of another type can then no longer be
set through a pointer of that class - at least not by accident. Only a handful
of classes had such an overload so far.
Classes that inherit a fitting overload from their base don't repeat it, and
Text, Image, Symbol and Parenthesis keep the general one: they can sit on too
many things to list.
What this turned up:
- Arpeggio::drop() and adding a fret diagram for a chord symbol passed on a
parent as plain EngravingObject; they name its type now.
- Trill passed its start element to its ornament without casting it to the
chord it had just checked it to be.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A shift or legato slide was first added to the chord it ends on, which
does nothing with it but set the flag that reserves room for a note
anchored line, and only then handed to its start note. Without a chord
to start from, it stayed behind on that chord, in no list at all.
Create it only when there is a start note, and with that note as parent.
The same goes for the slide from a grace note, which never reached its
note because the grace chord had taken it first.
The previous chord was also looked up, and the glissando given its
tracks, by staff index rather than track, which went wrong on any staff
but the first and in any voice but the first. Use the chords' tracks.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The glissando was added to a chord without start or end note. A chord
keeps no glissandos, so it was never laid out, drawn or saved; all that
remained was extra room in front of that chord.
Create it on the top note of the chord it starts on, ending on the top
note of the chord it ends on, the way slurs find their ends, and take
over whether it is straight or wavy and its text. The file gives a
glissando no voice, so it takes the first voice that has a chord at
both of its ends.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A glissando is owned by its start note, and Note::addSpanner marks the
chord it ends on. Nothing adds one to a chord anymore.
