The notation automation API now stores the selected automation lane and provides six lane options, including master volume and master pan. Playback control builds and caches volume and pan envelopes for instrument tracks and the master channel. Mixer updates preserve automated control values. Notation playback supplies track labels, and playback skips adding tracks without a label.
Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 6f576
A track added during an automation edit may play an outdated curve, and editing automation on a force-muted track may make it audible. Resolve those playback behaviors before merging.

SendsEnvelopesOnSetup sets a master volume envelope but no master pan envelope. Its master expectation asserts only FixedPanIs(audio::balance_t(0.f)). A setup path that drops the master pan envelope and sends a fixed balance of 0 still passes this test.
Add a point for AutomationCurveKey::global(AutomationType::Pan) to the setup data. Then assert the master pan envelope in place of the fixed balance check.

Update the setup data in SendsEnvelopesOnSetup to include a master pan
automation point using AutomationCurveKey::global(AutomationType::Pan), then
replace the master FixedPanIs expectation with an assertion that verifies the
master pan envelope is sent.
Add a test for balance and volume envelope preservation on mixer edits.
Add a test for balance and volume envelope preservation on mixer edits.
MixerPanelModel builds the ControlParams for a track edit in its controlParamsChanged handler. withEnvelopesOf keeps an automated volume or balance (pan) value before that handler calls setControlParams. No test exercises MixerPanelModel, so a change that drops the balance envelope would not fail the test suite. The existing envelope tests target PlaybackController only.
Add a test that changes volume or balance on a track with balance automation. Assert that the ControlParams passed to setControlParams still contain the balance envelope.

Add a MixerPanelModel test that edits volume or balance on a track with balance
automation and verifies the ControlParams passed to setControlParams retain the
balance envelope. Exercise the controlParamsChanged handler and its
withEnvelopesOf behavior; do not rely only on the existing PlaybackController
envelope tests.
Test the incoming automation value separately from the outgoing value.
makePoint sets inValue and outValue to the same number, and envelopePoints compares only outValue. The envelope tests therefore cannot detect a change that drops or alters inValue in the built envelope. Use distinct in and out values in at least one test point. Extend the envelope comparison to include inValue, then assert both values.

Update makePoint to assign distinct incoming and outgoing automation values for
at least one test point, then extend envelopePoints to compare inValue as well
as outValue and assert both values in the envelope tests.
No test in src/playback/tests sets a global Pan curve. The setup test expects FixedPanIs(audio::balance_t(0.f)) on setMasterControlParams. The master-edit test edits only the master Volume curve. The controller rebuilds the master Pan envelope on setup and on a global Pan edit. These tests do not exercise that path, so a regression in it would not fail them.
Add a test that sets AutomationCurveKey::global(AutomationType::Pan) points. Assert that setMasterControlParams receives a PanEnvelopeIs envelope on setup and again after a master Pan edit.

Add a playback controller test that sets points for
AutomationCurveKey::global(AutomationType::Pan) and verifies
setMasterControlParams receives the expected PanEnvelopeIs envelope both during
setup and after a master Pan edit. Keep the existing master Volume automation
test focused on Volume.
Cover envelope preservation in the mixer controlParamsChanged handlers.
Cover envelope preservation in the mixer controlParamsChanged handlers.
No test calls currentTrackControlParams() directly. No test reaches it at all. currentMasterControlParams() runs indirectly during master resends, but no test drives the mixer fader-edit handlers. The track handler at mixerpanelmodel.cpp:535-538 and the master handler at mixerpanelmodel.cpp:645-647 pass envelopes through withEnvelopesOf (mixerpanelmodel.cpp:46). A regression that drops those envelopes would not fail the test suite.
This is a coverage gap. The current code preserves the envelopes. A test that drives these handlers and asserts that the existing envelopes stay in the setControlParams and setMasterControlParams calls would detect such a regression.

Resend the new track's envelopes after it is mapped in doAddTrack.
An automation edit made while a track is loading skips that track. The envelope built in doAddTrack stays stale, and the engine receives it on add. The track plays the pre-edit curve until the next automation or tempo change rebuilds it.

Update doAddTrack to resend the new track’s volume and pan control parameters
after inserting its instrument-to-track mapping, so the engine receives
envelopes rebuilt from any automation edits made while the track was loading;
use the existing resendTrackControlParams flow for that track.

Keep solo and mute state when resending track controls.
resendTrackControlParams builds muted from saved track output params. Those params do not hold solo or range force-mute state, or the user mute state. Editing a volume or pan curve on a muted or force-muted track sends muted = false, so the track can become audible until the next solo or mute update. Call updateSoloMuteStates() after the resend loop.

For volume and master volume, I think rather than using the Pan style of showing the automation area as unfilled before adding points above or below 0, we should use the regular dynamics style where everything beneath the line is filled. Right now, it's almost hard to notice that the line is there when there's no fill. Pan should stay as-is.
Both situations will be helped once we start drawing an initial node at the start of the score, which isn't implemented yet.
Also, I see now that the mixer volume sliders become disabled once you've added some automation to them. I get why this happens, but there's no indication in the mixer why they're disabled. Some ways we could approach this:
A tooltip when hovering over the disabled slider indicating that automation is applied (need to work out copy)
Perhaps a new mixer row indicating that automation is on for this channel, with options to individually bypass automation for each customized automation type
