`plugin = true` installs an unprefixed, unversioned shared object into `$libdir/$install_subdir`. It requires install_subdir, refuses versioning, skips .a/.pc, and matches SONAME to the installed name. GStreamer-style plugins keep using install_subdir only so the lib prefix and static C-library artifacts stay intact.
Move the package.metadata.capi reference, plugin-mode guide, header generation, and troubleshooting out of README.md so the landing page stays a getting-started overview.
