Allow to sort linked documents

Problem or motivation

This is a followup request for the linked documents. Having many links in a doc, its sometimes harder to distinguish

Proposed solution

allow to sort linked documents by

• alphabetically, asc or desc (better when having a lot of similar titles to distinguish)
• by doc creation date asc or desc (better when working with the history flow)

Thanks — sorting the linked documents list is reasonable.

Sorting by title is client-side and can ship in v3.8.7. Sorting by creation date is a bigger change than it looks: a linked-document entry carries only id, title and source today, so the date has to be added along the whole read path — five files — which is why that half is a separate ticket for v3.9.

Three questions while it is open. Should one control sort both the outgoing and the incoming list, or one control each? By "doc creation date" do you mean the linked document's creation date, or the date the link was made? And should the chosen order be remembered between visits, the way the file grid's view mode is?

-> not necessarily. one sort button for both feels enough (if you ask me ^^)

By "doc creation date" do you mean the linked document's creation date, or the date the link was made?

-> by the creation date of the document. About the link date i am not sure - at least in my mind i dont see a use case (yet)

And should the chosen order be remembered between visits, the way the file grid's view mode is?

-> i think the view dont has to be persisted. could be handled globally. so if you set it ASC by title, do it the same for all other docs. if you open another doc and change the behaviour to DESC by title, take over for everything else.

Thanks — that settles it: one control for both lists, sorting by the linked document's own creation date, with the chosen order applying to every document for the current session rather than being stored.

The title sort lands in 3.8.7. Sorting by creation date needs that date added to the relation data first, so it follows in a later release.

One control above the related-documents panel covers both lists (links to and linked from). It offers Default order, Title A–Z and Title Z–A. The default keeps the order the server sends, and the choice lasts for the browser session rather than being persisted — all as agreed.

Sorting by the linked document's creation date needs that date added to the relation data first. It follows in a later release, as discussed. This issue stays open to track it.

The second half is in: the linked-documents lists can now also be sorted by the linked document's own creation date, oldest or newest first, alongside the title orders. One control drives both lists for the session, as agreed. Together with the title sort from v3.8.7, this completes the request, so the issue closes. Shipped in v3.8.8.

This closes the issue. If anything behaves differently than expected, say so and I will reopen it.
