The API shape looks good, and it matches clerk-ios. There's one real bug, and clerk-ios has it too.
revokeCurrentDeviceCredential() silently returns null when the device can't do a biometric check
It finds the credential through selectLocalCredential and then localCredentialCandidates. That's the sign-in lookup, and it returns "unavailable" in these cases:
- Biometrics are unenrolled or locked out on the device (
canEvaluateBiometrics: false). - The local key is missing. In this case the lookup also deletes the local record.
- The device has no secure key storage.
- The Dashboard feature is off, or the environment hasn't loaded yet.
In each case the method resolves null ("nothing to revoke") and leaves the server credential active. Revoking doesn't sign anything, so it shouldn't depend on any of these checks. The first case is the common one: a user removes Face ID or their fingerprints, then tries to turn biometric sign-in off.
Repro. I added these two tests to describe('revokeCurrentDeviceCredential') and ran them against this branch. The six existing tests pass. Both new tests fail with expected null to match object { id: 'td_1' }, and __experimental_revokeBiometricCredential is never called.
test('revokes when biometrics are no longer available on the device', async () => {
addLocalCredential();
biometrics.getAvailability.mockResolvedValue({
biometryType: 'none',
canEvaluateBiometrics: false,
canEvaluateDeviceOwner: true,
errorCode: 'biometry_not_enrolled',
secureKeyStorageAvailable: true,
});
await expect(renderBiometricCredentials().revokeCurrentDeviceCredential()).resolves.toMatchObject({ id: 'td_1' });
});
test('revokes the server credential when the local key is gone', async () => {
addLocalCredential({}, { withKey: false });
await expect(renderBiometricCredentials().revokeCurrentDeviceCredential()).resolves.toMatchObject({ id: 'td_1' });
});Suggested fix. Look up the local record by app and user directly. Then this PR doesn't need to add the userId parameter to localCredentialCandidates and selectLocalCredential. The old path did one useful thing for active sessions: it asked the server and cleaned up credentials already revoked elsewhere. To keep that, treat resource_not_found from the revoke endpoint as "already gone". The backend returns that code for a missing or already-revoked credential (RevokeByUserAndInstance in clerk_go).
revokeCurrentDeviceCredential: async () => {
const biometrics = requireBiometrics('E_TRUSTED_DEVICE_REVOCATION_FAILED');
// ...existing session check...
const record = (await callModule(biometrics, module => module.listRecords()))
.filter(record => record.appIdentifier === biometrics.appIdentifier && record.userId === user.id)
.sort(newestFirst)[0];
if (!record) {
return null;
}
try {
return await revokeCredential(biometrics, user, record.id);
} catch (error) {
if ((error as BiometricCredentialError).code !== 'resource_not_found') {
throw error;
}
await ignoreErrors(() => deleteLocalCredential(biometrics, record));
return null;
}
},iOS. The same fix for clerk-ios is in clerk/clerk-ios#672. It has three tests (biometrics unsupported, key missing, already revoked on the server), and the two capability tests fail on main. Mirroring those three tests here would keep the two SDKs in step.
Smaller points
- The new
revokeCurrentDeviceCredentialmember intypes.tshas no JSDoc. The Swift doc says to call it before sign-out because it needs a session. That's the main trap for app developers, so it should go in the doc comment and the changeset. enroll,reverify, and this method now repeat the same check for an active or pending session with a user. A smallrequireSessionUser(code)helper would remove the copies. This is a nit.

Document the local-state limitation.
listRecords() failures propagate and do not resolve to null. However, when no matching local record exists, this method returns null before calling revokeCredential(...). A remaining server credential can therefore stay active. Since list() lists active server credentials and revoke(id) revokes by ID, document this cleanup path instead of stating only that there is “nothing to revoke.”
Suggested JSDoc update
- * Call it before signing out, since it needs an active or pending session. Resolves with `null` if there is nothing

The fix looks good. Revocation no longer depends on biometric capability or a usable key, and an already-revoked credential cleans up locally. All 100 tests in useBiometricCredentials.test.ts pass on this head, including the two repro tests. This matches clerk/clerk-ios#672.
