Fixes #895

The Governor quorumAbsolute option accepts scientific notation and fractional values (numberPattern), but the value is printed into quorum() as ${quorumAbsolute}e${decimals}, or as-is when decimals is 0 or votes is erc721votes. Some accepted values generate code that solc rejects:

  • 1e3 generates return 1e3e18; (Identifier-start is not allowed at end of a number.)
  • 010 generates return 010e18; (Octal numbers not allowed.)
  • 1.5 with erc721votes or 0 decimals generates return 1.5; (rational_const 3 / 2 is not implicitly convertible to ... uint256)

Changes

  • Add getQuorumAbsolute in governor.ts. It adds the token decimals to the input's exponent instead of appending a second exponent, and strips leading zeros from the integer part. 1e3 now generates return 1e21; and 010 generates return 10e18;.
  • Reject a quorum that is not a whole number of votes with quorumAbsolute: 'Too many decimals', matching the premint error.
  • Existing outputs are unchanged: 1 still generates return 1e18;, and 1 with 0 decimals or erc721votes still generates return 1;. No snapshot changes.
  • Add tests for valid literals and for fractional votes.
  • Add a patch changeset for @openzeppelin/wizard.

Testing

  • npx ava src/governor.test.ts in packages/core/solidity: the 2 new tests fail on master and all 30 tests pass with the fix.
  • The old literals (1e3e18, 010e18, 1.5) fail to compile with solc 0.8.26 and the new literals (1e21, 10e18, 1.5e3, 2e2, 0.5e18) compile.
  • yarn lint (no errors) and yarn format:check pass.

Walkthrough

Governor absolute quorum generation now normalizes scientific notation and leading zeros. It rejects fractional values that cannot represent whole votes at the supported precision. Tests cover generated literals and validation errors.

An exponent-only quorum value produces a contract that will not compile. Reject that input before merging, or accept this narrow limitation with a workaround.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the main change: the Solidity Governor absolute quorum generator now produces valid number literals instead of invalid ones. The changeset adds getQuorumAbsolute, which merges the input exponent with token decimals, strips leading zeros, and rejects fractional votes. The title is specific and matches the linked issue #895 and the objectives.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is related to the changeset. It names the Governor quorumAbsolute option, the code that generates quorum(), and the three failing input examples. It lists the new getQuorumAbsolute helper, the Too many decimals rejection, the added tests, and the patch changeset. It also gives test and lint results.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #895 is directly linked and active. getQuorumAbsolute parses numberPattern, removes leading integer zeros, combines the input exponent with token decimals, and emits one Solidity exponent. It rejects fractional values that cannot represent whole votes with quorumAbsolute: 'Too many decimals'. Tests cover 1e3, leading zeros, fractional values, zero decimals, ERC721 votes, and valid fractional literals.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 3 functions across 2 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.
