Problem

I am unable to use Amazon Q Developer in Visual Studio Code. Whenever I try to use Amazon Q, I receive an error stating:

Please visit https://kiro.dev/ to purchase a Kiro subscription, which can be used with Amazon Q Developer. To manage an existing Q Developer Pro subscription, use the AWS Console.

I have tried signing out and signing back in and restarting Visual Studio Code, but the issue persists.

Steps to reproduce the issue

1. Open Visual Studio Code.
2. Open Amazon Q Developer.
3. Sign in with my account.
4. Try to use Amazon Q.
5. The above error appears and Amazon Q cannot be used.

Expected behavior

Amazon Q Developer should allow me to use the service normally after signing in, without directing me to purchase a Kiro subscription.

Actual behavior

Amazon Q is unavailable and displays the Kiro subscription message every time I try to use it.

I have tried restarting VS Code and signing in again, but the problem still occurs.

Do we have any updates on this issue, i am facing the same issue since 26 Jul 2026.
