Cannot access extension path using Laravel Herd

PHP8.4.
Laravel Herd being used to adminster PHP versions.

In PhpBinaryPath.php line 126:
  Could not determine extension path for /Users/JSeconde/Library/Application Support/Herd/bin/php84

It is possible that it's a permissions issue, but I would be unable to resolve that as this is a work machine.

@SecondeJK can you provide a bit more info please? What command are you running / how to reproduce? Can you try running with -v (or more -vv or -vvv) please?

• MacOS Tahoe 26.2
• Downloaded pie.phar and put it into /Users/Me/Applications
• edit .zshrc to add alias `alias pie="php /Users/Me/Applications/pie.phar"
• source .zshrc reload
• cd /Users/Me/Sites
• mkdir pie_test <- probably irrelevant, global install command coming
• pie install asgrim/example-pie-extension

I have omitted a lot of the earlier verbose logs where there are no errors, and the stack trace likely doesn't need parsing.

Either global is difficult to resolve because of Herd's setup, or I think I might have to do it with a pie.json at project level that might work.

Thanks - when you install extensions with PECL in this environment, do you happen to know where the extensions go (if it works)? Or does PECL not work either? Just trying to figure out where your extensions are installed from.

According to the Herd docs, you install PHP via Homebrew the regular way, then run pecl as if it's without Herd. This then follows pecl's default path by installing the .so in /opt/homebrew/lib/php/pecl, which you then need to go into your Herd configuration and manually add the extension to the php.ini file for that PHP version in ~/Library/Application Support/Herd/config/php/<version>/php.ini
