When the next "Winget/DesktopAppInstaller" production release is planned to be rollout?

Hi all,

In order to plan next steps to update manually Winget/DesktopAppInstaller, especially to patch "CVE-2026-68821", I'd like to know if a future production release (not a preview version) is scheduled to be rolled out very soon.

It already shipped. Per MSRC, CVE-2026-68821 is fixed in App Installer 1.29.279 (security update dated Aug 11, 2026), and the production servicing release that carries it is v1.29.290 (Aug 24, 2026) — the current "Latest" on the Releases page. You don't need the preview channel for the fix.

Patched or not: winget --version ≥ v1.29.279, or Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller | Select Version.

Manual update options:

• Store-connected devices get it through App Installer's automatic Store update; winget upgrade --id Microsoft.AppInstaller also works when the Store source is reachable.
• Offline: download Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller_8wekyb3d8bbwe.msixbundle (and DesktopAppInstaller_Dependencies.zip if the box is missing VCLibs/UI.Xaml) from the v1.29.290 release and run Add-AppxPackage .\Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller_8wekyb3d8bbwe.msixbundle; for every user on a device, Add-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online -PackagePath <bundle> -SkipLicense from an elevated prompt.
• PowerShell: Install-Module Microsoft.WinGet.Client then Repair-WinGetPackageManager -Latest -Force (add -AllUsers when elevated) pulls the latest stable release.
