Dear Valve Developers,
I am writing to draw your urgent attention to a game-breaking issue regarding the recent GoldSrc/CS 1.6 engine updates. Currently, the game is suffering from a massive network synchronization flaw that has rendered competitive play on community platforms (like Fastcup) nearly unplayable.
The Core Problem: Bullets are literally passing through enemies.
There is a severe, undeniable desynchronization between what the client sees and where the server calculates the hitboxes.
Ghost Shots: Perfectly aligned headshots and sprays are passing clean through enemy player models as if they are ghosts.
Complete Hitbox Discrepancy: The actual shootable hitbox is completely detached from the visible player model during movement. Players are forced to shoot empty air behind a moving enemy just to register a hit.
The Interpolation Paradox: Forcing the traditional competitive ex_interp 0.01 now causes unbearable model jitter and stuttering. However, increasing ex_interp to smooth out the models adds so much artificial delay that you constantly get killed behind solid walls.
We have tested this with pristine connections (30-35ms ping, 0% loss, 0% choke), and the result is the same. The engine's modern packet processing or server frame-time calculations (sys_ticrate) have fundamentally broken the tight, crisp hit registration that made CS 1.6 legendary.
While the steam_legacy branch fixes this on the client side, community servers are forced to run the updated server binaries, meaning the server-client desync remains completely broken for everyone.
A Note of Gratitude to the Development Team:
Before concluding, as the Counter-Strike 1.6 community, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the team. We truly appreciate your dedication to maintaining, updating, and keeping this legendary 25-year-old game alive on modern systems. It means the world to us that Valve still supports its roots, and our passion for this game is a reflection of your incredible work over the decades.
We only bring this critical hitbox issue to your attention because we love this game and want to preserve its iconic competitive integrity. We earnestly request the engineering team to review the modern GoldSrc network interpolation and hitbox alignment code whenever possible.
Thank you so much for your time, your hard work, and your continued support.
