• Default fallback: property.bgColor.value = gray
• Global for anything using bgColor as property: window.bgColor = psu_blue
• Global for all sidenotes: window.lrndesignSidenote.bgColor = phys010_purple

My preference would be to not call anything an institutional color such as psu_ or duke_. What about using http://chir.ag/projects/name-that-color/

@profmikegreene that's just like mike's mental placeholder. The more important notion is a way of overloading properties across a slew of unknown elements based on if they want to adhere to the convention.
