Hi everyone!
As we are gently approaching the new website launch, improving its content, in particular the illustrations, would greatly help.
In order to do this, a curated selection of illustrations, screenshots, photos, videos, animations, models, and other assets from the community to be featured on the website is proposed.
This means: looking for, reaching out, gathering, selecting, and curating a reasonable amount of great resources from the community (forum, social medias, public repos, or yours!) that illustrate the FreeCAD project as a whole:
The required standards are pretty simple:
Maybe the Assets repo can be used to store that? For now, this discussion or external links are OK I guess.
The first use of this selection is to populate the Homepage, Features page, possibly the Community page too, and the future 26.3 "fancy" release notes. Please submit early if possible (e.g. before end of September), or just answer you are not interested.
For the medium-term, it would be great to have one or two people who look after these resources, add or clean some from time to time, maybe thrice a year with the release schedule. They do not have to create these resources, more to curate them and make sure they are still relevant and meet required standards. Any takers? 😁
Thank you all for contributing! Have a good one!
Technical info
Images (screenshots, visual art and graphics, photographs, etc)
Images displayed on the website are resized and converted to WebP quality 80 without any XMP and Exif. Original files and sources can be in any other normal format (e.g. no proprietary RAW please), with ideally the longest dimension of at least 1600px (greater definition is obviously welcome). See the website illustrations guidelines for more info.
Images can be used as normal block-level figures in the website or via more advanced shortcodes.
Vector graphics
SVG files and most of their advanced features are supported in the website, as they are treated as inline SVG sprite. That means that they can be adapted to support theme chroma changes (e.g. dark vs light) via CSS style variables as well. Their code need a bit of tweaks and cleanup before use in the website though. See the website vector graphics guidelines for more info.
Videos
Videos can be added as asset files, or external links to PeerTube, YouTube, and Vimeo. There are no defined guidelines yet (if you have opinions on that subject, please share). A definition of 720p is probably a minimum I guess (no need for 4K though). Length is to be discussed, maybe 1-2 minutes max is enough? See the video shortcodes for more info.
Models
FCStd are probably the most expected format, but good-quality STEP, IFC and STL are probably OK too (if you have opinions on that subject, please share). No custom
FeaturePythonobjects please.Others
