Content Creation Camera Features #597

Description

@RedAzuki

Is your feature request related to a problem?

The current camera is lacking many features that are important for content creation.

Describe your preferred solution

Some camera features that I personally find critical for VR Content Creation

Camera Perspective on Desktop Window

The desktop window when using Basis in VR mode normally shows the user's perspective. This toggle would change the perspective to show the camera's view on the desktop window. This window is then used by capture software, such as OBS, to capture the camera's view.

Camera Lens Visibility

Local and Remote users need to be able to see the camera lens so they know where to look. This is very helpful for users with eye tracking.

"Flying Mode"

The camera being toggled into "flight" mode where the user can move the camera lens using their joysticks is really important. Being able to toggle this mode on and then move the lens without holding/touching the camera is really important. This enables creators to perform slick and versatile camera movements without people noticing. Flying mode needs speed adjustments as flying outside of content creation tends to be too fast for quality recordings.

Smoothing/Stabilization

Content creators tend to move the camera around a lot while recording. Without stabilization, the experience is jarring.

"Follow-Me"

"Follow-Me" is a feature of where the camera follows the user. Having the ability to adjust this is really important as based on avatar size it might not be following the correct point. This also enable users to create really cool orbital camera shots.

Spout/NDI Output

While I don't use this very often, I know many creators that rely heavily on this. Spout seems to be the go to solution, but I know this is a Windows only feature so it would be tough to make this cross platform. Spout is preferred for local use cases and NDI is preferred for network streaming use cases. OBS Teleport is also another similar technology that might be worth investigating.

Anchoring

The camera should be able to anchor to the user or to the world.

Green Screen

Toggle the camera's view to be a green screen rather than the world.

Some camera features that are very nice, but not critical

Look At The Nearest Camera

When there's a camera spawned, it's awkward when eyes on avatars are noticeably looking away from the camera. Some sort of feature that forces your avatar to look at the camera would be nice. Maybe this would make sense as a per user toggle of "look at nearest camera". When I started doing content creation, I literally bought a headset with eye tracking just to solve this problem.

Portrait/Landscape more toggle

A lot of content creators make short form content and portrait mode is important for this. Being able to lock the orientation is important so users and freely move the camera around without accidentally scuffing their shoot when the camera auto changes orientation.

Follow Something

Similar to Follow-Me, it would be awesome if there was a feature to track someone or something that is moving.

Multiple Camera Outputs

Maybe using a technology like Spout or NDI, it would be awesome to have multiple camera outputs at the same time. This is great for people making productions that want to record many camera angles in a single take, or for dual format steamers that stream in both portrait and landscape mode.

Camera Presets

This is ability to set up camera with specific settings and a location and then set up another camera with different settings and location. Being able to cycle between them quickly is important.
